Remember when you started your first web site or blog and couldn’t wait for that next Google update so you could finally have a Google Page Rank score of your own? It’s always an exciting time for any web site owner, and earning a Page Rank is very important for how your web site will continue to rank in the search engines. Did you also know that the speed of your web site has a lot of influence on your search rankings and page rank score? It’s true!

An awesome infographic that was created to show the importance of page speed and comparisons among top web sites and marketing services below states “Google recognizes the faster pace we all crave. In April 2010, Google officially identified page load time as a key criteria in its Page Rank system and in March of this year provided a detailed tool, Page Speed, to help identify the extra baggage (aka JavaScript) that slows us down.”

Before looking over the Google Page Rank Race infographic below, be be aware of the following points for your web site, when looking for improving your overall speed and search rankings.

The longer it takes to your page to load, the lower rank your page receives.

Higher Page Rank = More Google Traffic.

More Concise Code = Faster and more pleasant browsing experience.

Javascript can greatly slow down the speed and performance of your web site.

Some thrived, died, went out of business and a few also went on to be acquired and become parts of larger companies. One of the few successful and very profitable networks I’ve had the joy of working with, has been Neverblue. From what started out as a small affiliate company, has now grown into one of the top, thriving affiliate networks in the game today.

Since the inception of this blog, Neverblue has also been a proud sponsor and I’m thrilled they have seen such an amazing ROI. Through banner ads and mentioned on the blog, I’m proud to announce that over ONE MILLION DOLLARS has been earned through new referrals Neverblue from this blog ($1,191,700 to be exact). This not only shows that Neverblue is still one of the best networks to generate revenue, but also that the readers of ZacJohnson.com know how to make some good money for themselves.

Breanne Storey of Neverblue had the following to say.

“Congratulations Zac on surpassing the $1 million dollar milestone! The Marketing department at Neverblue is always thrilled to see the number of referred Affiliates Zac provides us with. To date Zac has been responsible for delivering over $1,000,000 in referred earnings to Neverblue! I am looking forward to seeing the quality Zac can continue to bring to our Affiliate referral program”

- Breanne Storey, Marketing and Communications Specialist, Neverblue

I would like to thank Neverblue and all of my readers for making achievement this possible!

One year later and we have finally hit the 12th month in the “Blog Revenue Report” case study. As you may already know, ZacJohnnson.com is less than two years old, and only in December of 2007 did it start to generate any revenue. Before that, it was strictly a unique blog design, with no advertisements in place.

Now on it’s third redesign, and one year later of first generate revenue, I can only say that it has been a great success. Not only from a revenue stand point, but from the sheer amount of emails and feedback I receive from readers on how much the blog has helped them make money online.

In October 2008, this blog generated $4,594.95 in income. Down from it’s previous high, but still above it’s average for the year. Here is the LAST revenue report for ZacJohnson.com, as the 12 month case study has come to a close.

NOVEMBER 2008 BLOG REVENUE REPORT:

- Affiliate Sales/Referrals: $2,134.44
- Private Ad Sales: $2,675.00
Total Revenue: $4,809.44

- No Costs
Total Costs: $0.00

Total Blog Income for October 2008: $4,809.44

Nothing too surprising about last months numbers, as they were right in line with the previous month. No additional advertising or hosting costs, since the blog is hosted on my own servers. It would only be fitting to say that December is looking to be the best month yet for this blog, so I will leave it at that and will continue to write occasional news and updates on the blog.

The Super Affiliate’s Guide to Blogging Profits

Now that the one year blog revenue report case study is over, it’s time to actually write the ebook and how the blog went from $0 to over $6,000+ a month in profit. Please subscribe to my newsletter at the top right of the page or below, and you will be the first ones to receive my free blog report ebook once it goes live in the coming weeks.

It was almost one year ago that I first starting producing revenue from this blog. Which means there is only one blog revenue report after this one, making for a full 12 months in the blog revenue case study. Last month was the second highest earning month for the blog, with $6,180.98 in revenue and $5,992.36 in profit. With the holiday season upon us, I wouldn’t be surprised to see overall affiliate earnings increase, as this is the time to start making big money. As mentioned, the total profit from the blog in September was $5,992.36, and the revenue report for October is below.

OCTOBER 2008 BLOG REVENUE REPORT:

- Affiliate Sales/Referrals: $1,624.95
- Private Ad Sales: $2,470.00
- Reviews: $500.00
Total Revenue: $4,594.95

- No Costs
Total Costs: $0.00

Total Blog Income for October 2008: $4,594.95

The two main revenue sources for the blog, but decreased in amount from the previous month, but this was slightly expected as an advertiser’s time sensitive campaign came to a close. The drop in affiliate referral earnings seemed to be across the board. One network told me that one of my main referrals was taking time to focus on school, rather than affiliate marketing… which has greatly reduced their affiliate earnings. As the last two months of the year usually bring in the most activity, I would not be surprised to see this numbers increase.

As mentioned, there is only one more blog revenue report after this one… then my free ebook will be released on the full case study, and how to make money with a blog. This ebook will be exclusively available to newsletter subscribers first, so please make sure you are subscribed by using the form below.

September ended up being my busiest month yet (travel wise), since I started making money online 12 years ago. The beginning of the month started off with IzeaFest in Florida, then BlogWorld in Las Vegas and finishing up with SEO Think Tank in California. To finish off my cross country tour, I will be speaking this weekend at Affiliate Summit Social Media NY.

In addition to all of my traveling, my goal for September was to try and make a blog post every day. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to make a post everyday, but I came very close and ended up with 28 posts. This was almost a 100% increase from the 15 posts I wrote in August. So what do think? Should I continue to post almost every day?

Total profit from the blog in August was $4,108.21, and the revenue report for September is below.

SEPTEMBER 2008 BLOG REVENUE REPORT:

- Affiliate Sales/Referrals: $3,179.33
- Private Ad Sales: $3,000.00
Total Revenue: $6,180.98

- Miva Ad Campaign: $188.62
Total Costs: $188.62

Total Blog Income for September 2008: $5,992.36

The only ad costs I have running on the site right now is for the Miva campaign I setup months ago. My account is now finally depleted with the initial few hundred I deposit into the campaign, and I will no longer be using their search marketing. No so much from a quality stand point, but mainly because I didn’t set anything up to track it’s performance on the blog.

There are only two “Blog Revenue” reports left, and those are for October and November. Once December hits, that will be the one year case study of “making money with a blog“. It’s been less than a year and ZacJohnson.com’s first month of generating revenue, in the amount of $1,487.64, has increased nearly 4 times… to over $6,000 in revenue a month. Not a bad case study for helping others make money online, while showing how it’s done in the process. Depending on how the next two month’s perform, this blog may earn over $40,000 within it’s first year of generating revenue… but the branding, networking and relationships resulting from the blog have been priceless. Thank you!

We are down to the last few “Blog Revenue Reports” for the blog, as the case study comes to an end with November 2008′s report… making it a full 1 year case study. When I first started ZacJohnson.com, I never would have expected it to be as promising and valuable as it is today. It’s simply amazing how many people are reading the blog, and the amount of exposure it’s given to me. Now whenever I attend an event or conference, everyone is telling me how they read the blog. That is just awesome!

Back to the blog report… July’s numbers came in at $4,101.18 profit and a break down of this month’s numbers are below.

AUGUST 2008 BLOG REVENUE REPORT:

- Affiliate Sales/Referrals: $2,774.88
- Private Ad Sales: $1,333.33
Total Revenue: $4,108.21

- Miva Ad Campaign: $101.60
Total Costs: $101.60

Total Blog Income for August 2008: $4,006.61

The only ad costs I have running on the site right now is for the Miva campaign I setup months ago. I was sure that I turned off the “auto-replenish” of funds, but apparently not… so they gigged me for another $250 into my balance. Once that is depleted I will close out the traffic from Miva.

For the most part, the numbers between July and August are nearly identical. The blog generated over $4,000 in profit again, so hopefully that is the bottom and low amount for the blog to hit. I expect much larger numbers for the month of September, not only because it’s when things start picking up again… but I’m also determined to write at least one post every day. So far it has been going well, but it is quite a job to accomplish. I’m looking forward to seeing the final numbers for the September.

Better late than ever, so here is the Blog Revenue Report for July 2008. Travel and keeping busy delayed this report from being posted earlier. Since this is a one year case study for the blog and how you can generate money with a blog, I still wanted to make sure it was posted. I started generating revenue with this blog in December 2007 and the case study will conclude at the end of November 2008. Last month, the numbers for this blog ended up at $5,142.72 profit, which just fell short of it’s previous high. The revenue numbers for July 2008 are shown below.

JULY 2008 BLOG REVENUE REPORT:

- Affiliate Sales/Referrals: $2,383.40
- Private Ad Sales: $1,300.33
- Reviews: $500.00
Total Revenue: $4,216.73

- Ad Spots on Blogs: $45.00
- Miva Ad Campaign: $70.55
Total Costs: $115.55

Total Blog Income for June 2008: $4,101.18

The Miva ad campaign is continually sending more traffic each month, but since the traffic is coming directly to the blog, I haven’t set anything up to test the quality of it. I may setup a few ad campaigns and send traffic to offers and follow up with a traffic quality post. Just targeting “affiliate” type keywords, the blog received 486 clicks in July from Miva. I will let the clicks keep coming through until I exhaust my initial $200 deposit I made into my account. Additional ad spots for ZacJohnson.com were purchased on a few smaller blogs that I read and wanted to show my support for.

This post is a little later than usual, but better late than never. Last month this blog made the big jump passed $5,000 in monthly revenue and profit. The blog’s profit earnings during May were $5,393.77 profit and June kept on the same track, but fell short of a new record by a couple hundred dollars. Here is the full report below..

JUNE 2008 BLOG REVENUE REPORT:

- Affiliate Sales/Referrals: $2,619.89
- Private Ad Sales: $1,300.33
- Reviews: $1,300.00
Total Revenue: $5,220.22

- Ad Spots on Blogs: $25.00
- Miva Ad Campaign: $52.50
Total Costs: $77.50

Total Blog Income for June 2008: $5,142.72

The Miva ad campaign finally sent more traffic for keywords in the “affiliate marketing” area, at a cost of around .15 per click. I also have a couple banners ads on select blogs which are sending a few visitors over. Unfortunately, I haven’t had the time to actually track the performance of this campaign or the quality of traffic from Miva.

Also, since my blog revenue reports started in December 2007, they have done quite well… however I think I will limit this case study to a one year report. After November’s blog earnings report, this blog post series will probably come to an end, unless I have several requests to do otherwise.

Last month was the first time the blog had a significant drop in revenue. Blog’s earnings during March were $3,463.53 profit, then dropped to $2,959.96 during April. I really never know what the end of the month revenue report is going to look like until I finally go through all of the numbers at beginning of the next month. I’m happy to say that the blog has bounced back from his previous low, and to a brand new high of $5,418.90 in revenue for May.

MAY 2008 BLOG REVENUE REPORT:

- Affiliate Sales/Referrals: $2,664.32
- Private Ad Sales: $1,633.33
- Reviews: $1,100
- ScratchBack Top Spots: $21.25
Total Revenue: $5,418.90

- Ad Spots on Blogs: $15
- Miva Ad Campaign: $8.13
Total Costs: $25.13

Total Blog Income for May 2008: $5,393.77

Across the board, the was an increase in revenue in all fields. The ScratchBack Top Spots were slacking for the past couple of months, so I was planning on removing the widget from the site at the beginning of the month. A few hours before I was planning to remove it, another ad buy came in, so I had to leave it running for a full week. The widget has not been removed from the blog and had earned over $1,000 in additional revenue since it’s inclusion on the blog since December. Advertising costs for the month were from testing traffic quality from Miva Searc and a few ad banners placements on other related blogs.

Another interesting point for the month of May, is that Shoemoney and John Chow also both posted new record highs in blog earnings. ShoeMoney’s blog is nearly earning $40,000 a month in revenue, while JohnChow isn’t far behind with his latest $32,529.40 report for May.

This month I’d like to start writing a few posts on questions or processes people have for making money or how to implement ideas they might have. If you haven’t already, follow me on Twitter and be sure to submit your questions and requests for future posts. This week the blog should also pass 3,000+ rss subscribers. Thanks for being a reader!

Goodbye to April and hello to May, it’s time for another ZacJohnson.com Blog Revenue Report. April was a good month and pretty much started off with me being in California for a week for EliteRetreat. The event was awesome and I decided to stay a few extra days to travel around the state and even visit Google. Due to my vacation time, I wasn’t able to post as much as I would have liked to during the month, but I still managed to make 25 posts… which isn’t that great. I should be averaging at least one a day and will aim for around 35-40 posts this month. With the recent Google PR Update, the blog also went from a PR4 to a PR5. Let’s take a look at how the blog’s revenue performed during April 2008, compared to March’s earnings of $3,463.53 profit.

APRIL 2008 BLOG REVENUE REPORT:

- Affiliate Sales/Referrals: $1808.31
- Private Ad Sales: $1100.00
- ScratchBack Top Spots: $21.25
Total Revenue: $2969.56

- Ad Spot on JoeTech.com
Total Costs: $10.00

Total Blog Income for April 2008: $2959.56

Previous month revenue numbers for the month were at a high of $3,465.53 and down a bit during April to $2,969.56. I’m not that concerned as the blog revenue is more of a case study than anything else, and also gives you an idea of how sales and affiliate earnings can fluctuate month to month. ScratchBack Top Spots were really slacking for the month, so I think I will be changing a few things up on the blog this month. Private sales were lower than previous month, but affiliate revenues were up.

As for advertising and maintenance costs, and the server costs are minimal since the blog is hosted on my own rack of network servers. While at Affiliate Summit West, I got to meet with Joe from JoeTech.com. I saw he recently added a few ad spots to his blog, so I decided to grab one of his 125×125 spots. Other than that, nothing special on costs or advertising for the blog.

You may have noticed the latest edition to the blog is the new “Super Affiliate Tips Newsletter” form in the top navigation bar. That is just one of the cool new features being added to the blog this month. I will have a dedicated post to this new mailing list early next week. Subscribe now and get exclusive posts and articles that won’t be featured on the blog, I’ll be sure to give away some goodies too. Lastly, since getting more active on Twitter this month, I’ve been able to talk and network with a lot more people and pick up some new readers. If you haven’t already, get on Twitter and follow me.
