August 2008 Blog Revenue Report

We are down to the last few “Blog Revenue Reports” for the blog, as the case study comes to an end with November 2008′s report… making it a full 1 year case study. When I first started ZacJohnson.com, I never would have expected it to be as promising and valuable as it is today. It’s simply amazing how many people are reading the blog, and the amount of exposure it’s given to me. Now whenever I attend an event or conference, everyone is telling me how they read the blog. That is just awesome!

Back to the blog report… July’s numbers came in at $4,101.18 profit and a break down of this month’s numbers are below.

AUGUST 2008 BLOG REVENUE REPORT:

- Affiliate Sales/Referrals: $2,774.88
- Private Ad Sales: $1,333.33
Total Revenue: $4,108.21

- Miva Ad Campaign: $101.60
Total Costs: $101.60

Total Blog Income for August 2008: $4,006.61

The only ad costs I have running on the site right now is for the Miva campaign I setup months ago. I was sure that I turned off the “auto-replenish” of funds, but apparently not… so they gigged me for another $250 into my balance. Once that is depleted I will close out the traffic from Miva.

For the most part, the numbers between July and August are nearly identical. The blog generated over $4,000 in profit again, so hopefully that is the bottom and low amount for the blog to hit. I expect much larger numbers for the month of September, not only because it’s when things start picking up again… but I’m also determined to write at least one post every day. So far it has been going well, but it is quite a job to accomplish. I’m looking forward to seeing the final numbers for the September.

July 2008 Blog Revenue Report

Better late than ever, so here is the Blog Revenue Report for July 2008. Travel and keeping busy delayed this report from being posted earlier. Since this is a one year case study for the blog and how you can generate money with a blog, I still wanted to make sure it was posted. I started generating revenue with this blog in December 2007 and the case study will conclude at the end of November 2008. Last month, the numbers for this blog ended up at  $5,142.72 profit, which just fell short of it’s previous high. The revenue numbers for July 2008 are shown below.

JULY 2008 BLOG REVENUE REPORT:

- Affiliate Sales/Referrals: $2,383.40
- Private Ad Sales: $1,300.33
- Reviews: $500.00
Total Revenue: $4,216.73

- Ad Spots on Blogs: $45.00
- Miva Ad Campaign: $70.55
Total Costs: $115.55

Total Blog Income for June 2008: $4,101.18

The Miva ad campaign is continually sending more traffic each month, but since the traffic is coming directly to the blog, I haven’t set anything up to test the quality of it. I may setup a few ad campaigns and send traffic to offers and follow up with a traffic quality post. Just targeting “affiliate” type keywords, the blog received 486 clicks in July from Miva. I will let the clicks keep coming through until I exhaust my initial $200 deposit I made into my account. Additional ad spots for ZacJohnson.com were purchased on a few smaller blogs that I read and wanted to show my support for.

June 2008 Blog Revenue Report

This post is a little later than usual, but better late than never. Last month this blog made the big jump passed $5,000 in monthly revenue and profit. The blog’s profit earnings during May were $5,393.77 profit and June kept on the same track, but fell short of a new record by a couple hundred dollars. Here is the full report below..

JUNE 2008 BLOG REVENUE REPORT:

- Affiliate Sales/Referrals: $2,619.89
- Private Ad Sales: $1,300.33
- Reviews: $1,300.00
Total Revenue: $5,220.22

- Ad Spots on Blogs: $25.00
- Miva Ad Campaign: $52.50
Total Costs: $77.50

Total Blog Income for June 2008: $5,142.72

The Miva ad campaign finally sent more traffic for keywords in the “affiliate marketing” area, at a cost of around .15 per click. I also have a couple banners ads on select blogs which are sending a few visitors over. Unfortunately, I haven’t had the time to actually track the performance of this campaign or the quality of traffic from Miva.

Also, since my blog revenue reports started in December 2007, they have done quite well… however I think I will limit this case study to a one year report. After November’s blog earnings report, this blog post series will probably come to an end, unless I have several requests to do otherwise.

May 2008 Blog Revenue Report

Last month was the first time the blog had a significant drop in revenue. Blog’s earnings during March were $3,463.53 profit, then dropped to $2,959.96 during April. I really never know what the end of the month revenue report is going to look like until I finally go through all of the numbers at beginning of the next month. I’m happy to say that the blog has bounced back from his previous low, and to a brand new high of $5,418.90 in revenue for May.

MAY 2008 BLOG REVENUE REPORT:

- Affiliate Sales/Referrals: $2,664.32
- Private Ad Sales: $1,633.33
- Reviews: $1,100
- ScratchBack Top Spots: $21.25
Total Revenue: $5,418.90

- Ad Spots on Blogs: $15
- Miva Ad Campaign: $8.13
Total Costs: $25.13

Total Blog Income for May 2008: $5,393.77

Across the board, the was an increase in revenue in all fields. The ScratchBack Top Spots were slacking for the past couple of months, so I was planning on removing the widget from the site at the beginning of the month. A few hours before I was planning to remove it, another ad buy came in, so I had to leave it running for a full week. The widget has not been removed from the blog and had earned over $1,000 in additional revenue since it’s inclusion on the blog since December. Advertising costs for the month were from testing traffic quality from Miva Searc and a few ad banners placements on other related blogs.

Another interesting point for the month of May, is that Shoemoney and John Chow also both posted new record highs in blog earnings. ShoeMoney’s blog is nearly earning $40,000 a month in revenue, while JohnChow isn’t far behind with his latest $32,529.40 report for May.

This month I’d like to start writing a few posts on questions or processes people have for making money or how to implement ideas they might have. If you haven’t already, follow me on Twitter and be sure to submit your questions and requests for future posts. This week the blog should also pass 3,000+ rss subscribers. April 2008 Blog Revenue Report

Goodbye to April and hello to May, it’s time for another ZacJohnson.com Blog Revenue Report. April was a good month and pretty much started off with me being in California for a week for EliteRetreat. The event was awesome and I decided to stay a few extra days to travel around the state and even visit Google. Due to my vacation time, I wasn’t able to post as much as I would have liked to during the month, but I still managed to make 25 posts… which isn’t that great. I should be averaging at least one a day and will aim for around 35-40 posts this month. With the recent Google PR Update, the blog also went from a PR4 to a PR5. Let’s take a look at how the blog’s revenue performed during April 2008, compared to March’s earnings of $3,463.53 profit.

APRIL 2008 BLOG REVENUE REPORT:

- Affiliate Sales/Referrals: $1808.31
- Private Ad Sales: $1100.00
- ScratchBack Top Spots: $21.25
Total Revenue: $2969.56

- Ad Spot on JoeTech.com
Total Costs: $10.00

Total Blog Income for April 2008: $2959.56

Previous month revenue numbers for the month were at a high of $3,465.53 and down a bit during April to $2,969.56. I’m not that concerned as the blog revenue is more of a case study than anything else, and also gives you an idea of how sales and affiliate earnings can fluctuate month to month. ScratchBack Top Spots were really slacking for the month, so I think I will be changing a few things up on the blog this month. Private sales were lower than previous month, but affiliate revenues were up.

As for advertising and maintenance costs, and the server costs are minimal since the blog is hosted on my own rack of network servers. While at Affiliate Summit West, I got to meet with Joe from JoeTech.com. I saw he recently added a few ad spots to his blog, so I decided to grab one of his 125×125 spots. Other than that, nothing special on costs or advertising for the blog.

You may have noticed the latest edition to the blog is the new “Super Affiliate Tips Newsletter” form in the top navigation bar. That is just one of the cool new features being added to the blog this month. I will have a dedicated post to this new mailing list early next week. Subscribe now and get exclusive posts and articles that won’t be featured on the blog, I’ll be sure to give away some goodies too. Lastly, since getting more active on Twitter this month, I’ve been able to talk and network with a lot more people and pick up some new readers. If you haven’t already, get on Twitter and follow me.
