Focusing on a Niche Market: IronMan Movie

Initial numbers are out, and it’s no surprise… the IronMan movie is owning up the box office. As reported by Deadline Hollywood, here are what the first numbers look like and forecast:

‘IRON MAN’ FIRST SUMMER STRONGMAN: Friday’s $30 Million Dollar Marvel; $80+M Weekend, $30M Intl, 2008’s Biggest Yet

So what does this mean for you? Besides being one of the millions of people that are going to see this movie, why turn it around for once and make money off the movie, while enjoying it! If you have an interest in comics and or just like IronMan, the potential here is amazing. Just look at the Spiderman movie series, they have been marketing and commercializing the heck out of that movie since day one. If you got in early with promoting or marketing Spiderman products, you probably made out very well. Don’t let another Marvel Movie pass you buy without making some extra pocket change, not to mention you will be ready when the sequels come out too!

The IronMan movie has now been released and it’s already going to get massive overflow of people searching online for videos, screencaps, the IronMan story, comics and more… you name it! So how can you start promoting IronMan products or get in on the action. Be creative! Target to your audience and give them what they want. If you are good with ppc marketing, you can setup ad campaigns around IronMan, or you can simply setup an IronMan store and sell products, dvds and comics. Amazon.com and several other Affiliate Programs have thousands of IronMan products.

Another idea is to create a Build a Niche Store site. I created an IronMan comics sites just for the movie’s release. With the new movie coming out, you know there is going to be a huge interest in the comic book series. The creation of this IronMan comics site, using BANS, will also play into my case study for you to follow and watch. For now I have thrown together a basic design using the BANS program to give you an idea of what an out of the box site would look like. As of now, I have just registered a domain and created a header image for the site and will now document and write a tutorial of how I made the basic site into a monetized IronMan dedicated comic and memorabilia site. Through the week updates will follow with screen captures and what changes were made the to site. This should not only give you ideas on how to target to niche markets, but also how to monetize a page to the maximum.

What are your ideas for creating a revenue generating campaign around a new movie? If you are targeting towards a movie that is already bound for success, the branding and audience is already there. You just need to focus on providing a quality products and getting users to your site.

Follow Me on Twitter

I’m getting everything ready and doing my last minute packing for San Francisco, CA, where I will be attending Elite Retreat this week. I will have plenty of posts over the next few days to cover the event, but first I would like to talk a bit about Twitter. I signed up to Twitter quite a while ago, but never really got into. I just started up again a couple days ago and I’m finding it really useful. Just last week I made a post on how I wanted to connect with my users through Facebook. The response has been awesome, and I will post the t-shirt winners later this week! Since the post I’ve added over 200 friends and once again came across a bunch of people in the past, that I had no idea read the blog… it’s also brought me a bunch of new contact and even some new business.

Back to Twitter… so everyone pretty much already knows what Twitter is, and a great amount of people are already using it. It’s like AIM on crack, but with a massive audience you can talk with all at the same time, or individually. It also comes with some great programs or addons you can use to better your Twitter experience. I’ve been using Twhirl and really enjoying. Another great resource is TwitterFeed, which updates your Twitter account with your latest blog posts.

As mentioned, I’ll be in California for the next few days, so I’ll be posting updates to Twitter throughout Elite Retreat and my adventures around the state. Stay up to date and network with me on Twitter!

Project Virgle’s Video Submission to Mars

What may seem like an April Fool’s Day joke, is anything but… Google and Virgin have teamed up to create Virgle, which is planned to be the first human settlement on Mars. Two new videos from both Larry, Sergey (co-founders of Google) and Richard Branson (founder of Virgin), were added to YouTube yesterday. In each video, the founders talked about their plans and goals for project Virgle. To make things even more exciting, they would like everyone interested (in living on Mars), to submit a short 30 second video on why they should be selected as one of the first inhabitant on Mars.

I can’t imagine the extremely long process they have setup to manage and go through all of the video submissions. However, they will have plenty of time, considering they don’t expect to be on Mars anytime within the next 15-20 years. If you aren’t already familiar with Richard Branson and Virgin, they are already in the process of sending people into space and trying to make it as cheap as possible. The future is very bright for these two companies and they have the money and funding to make it happen.

So, what do you think? April Fool’s Day Joke? A simple 30 second video that could be worth millions? Visit the Project Virgle web site and fill out their application form and see if you have what it takes to be one of the few Virgle pioneers to inhabit Mars with Sergey, Larry and Richard? :)

Funny Viral Internet Commentator Videos

As bloggers and internet marketers we can really appreciate the comments and feedback left by others when we write a new post or article. CollegeHumor recently created a series of videos which are based on “commentators” and their onslaught of comment postings, which really provide no value to anyone. Whether it’s the a “first!” or “last” comment, comment spam from a bot or simply a talking banner ad… CollegeHumor did a great job at pointing out all of those comments, CAPTCHAs, spammers and gratuitous comments we love to hate. Congrats to CollegeHumor for another great viral video campaign, which currently has over 2000 Diggs.

All three of CollegeHumors.com’s Internet Commentator Videos are shown below. Some videos contain adult language, but are still funny nonetheless. :)

Say Hello to My Little Friend

A little over a month ago, Jim Kukral wrote a post on how Dwight Schrute (from The Office) has his own bobble head, and why can’t he? Even Jim Cramer has his own bobble head! In the post, Jim also mentioned a new company called WhoopAssEnterprizes, which specializes in the creation of custom bobble heads. Right after I saw the post and their web site, I knew I had to order a bobble head of my own.

WAE has a decent site, and when you fill out the order form, you can go into quite some detail on how you want your bobble head created, along with uploading multiple photos of what you look like. I told WAE, that I wanted the bobble head to look more like the ZacJohnson.com blog toon, than anything else. Here were the first draft sets of images they sent, in the creation of Mini-Zac.

After receiving the the draft pictures, WAE asks if there are any changes you would like made to the design. I approved their design right away, anxiously awaiting their next set of pictures. A few days had passed and I finally received an email with my completed bobble head.

If you’d like to have your own bobble head or mascot on your desk, I’d recommend going with WAE. The price on a custom bobble head is $125, but they’re worth it. Not only did they provide a quality product, but they will keep working with the designs until you are satisfied.
