STOP Saying “IF” and Start Saying “WHEN”

I was never a big fan of inspirational posts, merely because while you read them, you are pumped up… but afterward, the majority of people will forget what they read, or never take initiative. Since my last “I wish I was Rich Like You” post went over pretty well, I thought I would throw one more at you.

There is a very big difference between dreamers, and people who put ideas into action. While most people wish of winning the lottery and say things like “If I’m ever a millionaire…“, the truth is, this will really happen to none of us. First off, half the people who say it, don’t even purchase lottery tickets… and the other half have such astronomical odds against them, it’s just unlikely.

On the flip side, you have people and believe in what their dreams are and put action forth. They know the lottery isn’t how they will get rich, and they are willing to set their ideas in motion. The same holds true for making money online, running your own business, or any task you are looking to accomplish.

For anyone that is already following me on Twitter, you may have seen one of my “Dunk Training Day # – Done” messages. My current personal goal is to dunk a basketball. I’m only 5’10″ and I’ve tried to dunk before, but got lazy with my training. Now I’m putting full effort towards that task, and it isn’t a question of “IF”, but “WHEN”!

If someone doesn’t believe in your idea, or what your striving to accomplish, who cares!? Do it for yourself, and it will be that much more rewarding when you prove the doubters wrong.

Super Affiliate Blog Birthday – 2 Years in the Making

When I first started blogging, I had no idea where it would go. My original intention was never to build the blog with the intention to sell, or market my own products, but to continually provide information and resources for free. Instead of writing an ebook, or selling my own marketing course, I would focus on providing as much information and resources as I could to my readers, at no cost. I would focus on quality content and building a reader base, then worry about revenue generation later.

During the first nine months of the blog, there were no advertisements and not much interaction with the user. After having my original blog design redone by Unique Blog Designs, the site started to generate money with on-site advertising and network referrals. Nearly a year after ZJ Blog version 2.o, UBD worked their magic again and version 3.o was released on 11/24/08. The results of quality content, multiple blog designs, networking and support from advertisers… I’m proud to say the blog is now generating over $12,000 profit per month.

As mentioned earlier, I never started the blog with the sole intention to for it to be my next money maker. Instead I wanted to focus on creating an resource site on how to make money online and for others to learn what “affiliate marketing” is. After all… isn’t affiliate marketing better than 99% of the “real” jobs out there? To this day, creating this blog has probably been one of the best decisions I have made. While it was great to be an “affiliate in the dark” for the majority of my 13+ years of making money online, it’s also great to share my stories and knowledge, and hear from new blog readers every day and how they just started making a few dollars online!

Over the past year I’ve also had the following to attribute to the blog:

- Recently published my 500th post on the blog, over 12,000 comments and just passed 6,000 RSS subscribers.

- I had the honor of taking part in the “Super Affiliate Blog Panel” at Blog World with ShoeMoney, Brian Clark, Darren Rowse and John Chow.

- Several thousands of dollars in cash and prizes have been awarded by networks from contests and promotions run on this blog. Not only bringing in new business to affiliate networks, but also creating new revenue paths for affiliates.

- One of my proudest accomplishments from the blog, is seeing that it has helped generate over ONE MILLION DOLLARS in new commissions for affiliates. With over 1,500 referrals to Neverblue alone, and hundreds more of affiliates to other networks, the blog has greatly exposed new networks and brought in a lot of new affiliates to our industry.

Hotel Success with Hotwire.com

When using a service for the first time, it’s rare for everything to work out and go smoothly. To make a long story short, last minute, I had to head over to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ for the night and needed two hotel rooms. I was quoted a rate of $180 a night from the Hyatt. However, I was previously told hospital visitors get rooms for around $110 a night. Unfortunately the staff member who mentioned the special rate, wasn’t there when I needed to book. I instead went online and used Hotwire.com for the first time.

The crazy thing about Hotwire.com, is that they show you a listing of hotels by star ratings, and their price ranges. The part that is crazy, is that they don’t tell you the name of the hotel you are staying at until you pay and book your stay. You can select your hotel results by location, but it’s still a toss up.

I took my chance and went for the 4 star rating hotel, listed at $65 a night. Pow! They gave me two rooms at the Hyatt for a super discounted rate! Instant savings of nearly $200 for the two rooms from booking with the Hyatt directly!

As mentioned, this is the first time I’ve used Hotwire.com, and it was a great success. I will definitely be using their service again. Next time I might not get the hotel I was hoping for, but the discounts are amazing.

If you are an affiliate and looking to save a few dollars, you could sign up through your own affiliate link and earn an extra 2%. The Hotwire.com affiliate program is run through Linkshare. Then use an American Express Plum Card and save another 2% on top of that!

Finding Customers & Success No Matter the Economy

No matter what the economy is doing, how big your competitors, or what niche you’re in… someone is always making money. More than anything else, it comes down to how you are marketing, and what you are offering to your customers. The other day while I was watching Fox Business News, I them list AutoZone stock on the screen. While almost every stock has been tanking for the past several months, AutoZone has been living it up, and just hit it’s 52 week high. Take a look at their one year chart below.

While the Rest of the Markets Tank, AutoZone find a Way Thrives

As you may have guessed, AutoZone is thriving while others are dying, because instead of buying new cars, many people are instead buying parts to improve or fix their current cars. The economy has been changing the way a lot of people spend their money, but people will always continue to spend their money.

The same holds true for marketing online. Whether your competition is holding back on ad spending (which is usually never a good idea), or customers are buying cheaper and used products through Amazon & eBay instead of full price directly from the retailer, the consumer spending will always be there.

Whether the economy is doing great or poorly, AutoZone will always have a significant customer base. Does the same apply for your business?
