Digg HD DVD Processing Key
Have there been any after effects for Digg after they have been published all over the internet the past few days for their HD DVD Processing Key post removal? If you haven’t heard already, a Digg user had posted a story featuring the HD DVD Processing Key. HD DVD is an advertiser on Digg and was not too happy about this, so they asked for it to be removed. Digg was initially against removing the post, but money rules… and they listened to their wallets (and advertiser). The story was removed from Digg, then the users got really angry. At one point Digg even had to remove their submission form for new listings, but quickly set the function back up again.
While this is already known by most, what isn’t known by many is the after effect on Digg. Did it hurt them, are users leaving, or could this have helped them? While going through some Alexa stats I came across the Digg’s chart and you can clearly see the effect on it’s site traffic since the whole HD DVD Processing Key fiasco. (click the image to the right for full view) Their traffic rank power went from their 1 week average of 81 to an amazing 48! This just goes to show you… sometimes even bad news is good news!

"With great power comes great responsibility".... my Uncle Ben told me that. Haha, just kidding! I'm Zac Johnson and I've been making money online for over 10 years now. In short, I started making money online while I was in high school... but my passion for marketing and making money goes back way earlier than that. I created ZacJohnson.com to help motivate you to start making money online, and live the life the you always dreamed of.
One thing about this situation is that I can not believe the Digg Community acted in such away. It almost seem like the management at Digg created this firestorm on purpose. The after affect is amazing because you can not click on a blog without seeing a mention of the processing key story.
What blows my mind is how the community went together just to prove a point. I think that most of just showed the immaturity of the community. It’s not them going to get in trouble its the company (digg). The community is just there to voice their opinion while Kevin Ross gets hit hard with law suites and advertisers leaving (maybe).
Wow, their traffic rank went up with this news. It should be quite interesting to see what will happen in the next few weeks.

Great publicity for Digg though, eh?!?
