Creating a Winning Business Formula: Create an authority site that ranks well in the search results for a specific niche or product. The goal is to rank within the top results in the search engines and convert your traffic into paid users through the use of affiliate marketing. The “real” cost of setting up your new business site, is the actual amount of time you put into your content and site promotion.

And so we move on…

The process isn’t as complicated as some people might want to make it. You register a domain name, setup hosting and start creating content for your site. AGAIN, make sure you put in the time and effort to find a winning niche or you will end up wasting time and money.

Once you’ve decided on your niche, write as much content as you can for your main page (800-1200) words and create a chart or break down the content so it’s easy to read. The end goal here is to create content that provides real value. This will be very important for the engagement, ranking and overall monetization of your site.

Of course you do! Examples are a great way to see what is working and also gives you proof that others are doing well with these methods as well.

Two other niche case studies that you should be following are the ones from Spencer Hawes and Pat Flynn. The Core of Your Business

During the initial business planning process it’s important to remember that we are going to try and spend as little money as possible to get started. There are plenty of areas to improve and spend money later on once your content and core is established.

The core for your business in this example should be to find a niche product that people are searching for on a daily basis and that you can become a resource of information for. People are searching for different things every day, but targeting in on your audience they are in “buying mode” is key to converting your site visitors into buyers. Since writing is something that nearly anyone can do, and will cost you time instead of money… this is your investment into the business.

The best sites for making money online through affiliate marketing are review sites, comparison shopping, coupons and tutorial guides. All of these sites are great methods for engaging with your audience and getting them to take action. These are the types of sites you will want to create, then back out your traffic into an affiliate marketing offer (ie: Amazon.com or individual program).

I’ve mentioned in the past that I’m a big fan of using long tail keyword software, but since this software comes with a cost we aren’t going to focus on it for this concept. Instead you can utilize many of the free resources out there that provide a ton of great information.

• Google Keyword Tool – Not only is Google the greatest search engine in the world, but they also provide some amazing tools for free as well. Google Keyword Tool will allow you to search keywords, see how competitive the market is and how many people are searching for these and related keywords every month.

• Amazon Top Sellers List – What are people buying right now? Not just across everything listed on Amazon, but broken down into categories as well. Knowing what people are buying and seeing their feedback and “what else they purchased” is a killer resource when creating your own site.

• Search Status – Choosing the right keywords and niche is only half the battle. You also need to know who your competitors are and how easy or hard it will be for you to rank among the top search results. A free browser plugin called Search Status will show you the PageRank, Whois, Alexa, Compete, MozRank and much more while you are browsing through the search results. All very important factors when trying to rank organically in the search results.

Where Do You Go From Here

Now it’s time for you to take everything that we mentioned in this article and start to build a foundation for your business. You don’t need to rush out and get a domain name and hosting right now. Instead you need to spend time to see what niche market you want to get into and how you can become a valuable resource for those who are searching on your topic.

• Pay per click marketing – You will need to have money to spend on search advertising and click costs can range anywhere from .05 to $100 depending on what keywords you will select. This method may also require the use of landing pages and advanced tracking features.
• Media buying – This is a great method to get a lot of exposure across thousands of web sites very fast, but again it will require you to spend a lot of money in the process since you will be buying ad space on other sites. You will also need to know how to setup ad campaigns and do pixel tracking to monitor your results.

• eCommerce – Another great way to make money online is to sell products… of course you are going to need to have a product to sell and a way to track all of your sales and customers. That was several years ago and a lot has changed. It’s much easier and more cost effective to create an online store of your own, and you no longer need to worry about creating custom sites and messing with design code to get everything in the right place.

Shopify.com is one of the top services in the ecommerce niche which has quickly been building a name for themselves and helping others get their businesses and products online.

Instead of boring you with the basics, you should first check out this short video that was created to explain their site. Best of all, it’s less than a minute long!

After watching the video and seeing how great the backend and design process looks, I want to start up my own ecommerce site! Unfortunately I have nothing to sell at the moment and currently loaded up with other projects. If you have something cool to see or would like to get started in the dropshipping business, this is definitely the way to go.

Fortunately there is a way to alleviate the problem – time management. If you can organize your day and make a schedule that you stick to, you will find that you can do more and go home in a much more relaxed state of mind. Here’s how.

Study your typical day

It may sound dull, but before you can create a time management plan you need to know what you do during the day. You need to keep a diary of all you do during the day and when you do it. Include time spent working on specific tasks, time responding to calls and emails, time at meetings and times when you are having a casual chat. In other words make a complete, accurate record of your day. If you do this for a week or so you will have a very clear picture of how you spend your time.

Create a daily plan

Your typical workday will usually have a number of routine tasks. Allocate a time to them and stick to it. You can create a list and tick tasks off as you complete them. This will make you feel good and save you time worrying about if you have forgotten something. You may even be able to spot areas where you can save more time.

Deadlines

Another thing that sucks about affiliate marketing (from the affiliates stand point) is that when you send a lead to a company you only get a small one time payment, yet the company potentially gets that customer for life and continues to make money off the lead.

Both of these points are just a few of the issues that Andy Kidd and Shawn Veltman from Nutrapay.com has had. Andy and Shawn have been in the affiliate marketing game for many years now and have done a lot of volume in the rebill niche, which many of you know made a ton of people money and actually got nasty for some customers.

So what are affiliate marketers to do?

Fortunately as an affiliate marketer you have a lot of options… after all, you are really your own boss. While getting one time commissions is still a viable business and making money for a lot of people, there are still ways that you can do more for yourself, your roi and the people you are selling to.

Here are a few ideas you can play around with…

Promote Offers that Don’t Suck

The “rebill” name has left a bad taste in many people’s mouths, however it’s not the billing model that is messed up… it’s the products that are being promoted and how they were promoting. Nobody wants to feel like they were scammed with a fake news site or continuously get billed for something after they try and cancel.

Here’s another reminder that there is nothing wrong with a rebill model… you are getting billed everything for your mobile device, internet access and much more right? Of course you are… and at the same time these are products and services you will happily pay for. Promoting affiliate offers with these same principles will not only help you with your promotions, but you will also know that people actually want what you are promoting in the process.

Find a Way to Earn Recurring Payments

Getting back to the topic of being an affiliate marketer and only receiving a one time commission for new customers. In most cases this is fine, especially when it’s for a free signup, download or submission form. However, when you are sending a customer to a company and you know they are getting billed on a monthly basis wouldn’t it be nice to earn a recurring commission on this as well?

Of course it would, and this is something I actually know quite well. Way back when I was first starting out I was making good money by pushing web hosting and I was earning a nice recurring 25% commission on all new customers month after month. Now most companies pay a huge upfront commission instead of a recurring business model.

There are two ways that you can start earning a recurring commission on your referred leads:

1. Start your own fulfillment company… which is not a very fun idea.
2. Connect with advertisers / networks directly who offer recurring commissions.

A lot has changed over the years and fewer companies than ever are offering recurring commissions, simply because they would rather pay an upfront cost and have the revenue coming in for the life of the customer.

Earlier I mentioned that Andy and Shawn from Nutrapay.com had a lot of experience in the health and rebill industry. After talking with him and going through the many negatives and frustrations of being an affiliate marketer he mentioned that after dealing with these same problems he went on to create his own network that focuses on creating quality products that are billed on a recurring basis, but also offering recurring payments to affiliate marketers in the process.

This means instead of promoting an offer and earning a one time commission, you would see a monthly commission as long as that customer continues to receive the product.
