I do agree on the 3 things pointed out when running your own business. I also think that there is no set guidelines on which one works best – you do need to find which one works for you. There are pros and cons for each choices presented but essentially its the end result that is important.

@Amit Mehta: I agree. When it comes to outsourcing, you can't jump in with both feet. This is why it is necessary to do your research before actually hiring an outsource partner. Even then, you have to spend a fair amount of time building a good working relationship with the company. Once you have made it to the clearing, though, you will realize that outsourcing does offer a lot of benefits, making it a great business strategy.

At the moment I am running over 10 websites and I have to outsource a lot if I want to push the websites. In fact I am outsourcing webdesign, development and content creating work to students. They have strong know how and very good skills and the prize for their work is really nice

To build a successful online business involves a lot of work and engaging in different mundane tasks. Outsourcing will definitely do some good. But sometimes exactly how to go about it can be challenging.

I agree that outsourcing is a great way to expand a business. By using outsourcing, you can essentially remain a 1 person company, but still expand. By hiring people to do certain tasks, you can free up a lot of time to focus on more important things or just areas where your strengths lie. I have started to use freelancers and now it is just a matter of investing enough money in their services to get my business going stronger.

I’ve found outsourcing to be extremely helpful, although sometimes it can take some “testing” to find qualified help for certain tasks!

I would recommend outsourcing to anyone who is used to running a one-person operation. From there, you can see how comfortable you might be having your own staff (or not).

The joys & pitfalls of being self-employed. When you're doing everything yourself you have ultimate control over production & quality of output, but that scenario doen't remain tenable for too long. Employing good people is key here, because if you pay peanuts you'll get monkeys and although you might have a bigger turnover you'll find that you're actually making less money.
