May 2008 Blog Revenue Report

Last month was the first time the blog had a significant drop in revenue. Blog’s earnings during March were $3,463.53 profit, then dropped to $2,959.96 during April. I really never know what the end of the month revenue report is going to look like until I finally go through all of the numbers at beginning of the next month. I’m happy to say that the blog has bounced back from his previous low, and to a brand new high of $5,418.90 in revenue for May.

MAY 2008 BLOG REVENUE REPORT:

- Affiliate Sales/Referrals: $2,664.32
- Private Ad Sales: $1,633.33
- Reviews: $1,100
- ScratchBack Top Spots: $21.25
Total Revenue: $5,418.90

- Ad Spots on Blogs: $15
- Miva Ad Campaign: $8.13
Total Costs: $25.13

Total Blog Income for May 2008: $5,393.77

Across the board, the was an increase in revenue in all fields. The ScratchBack Top Spots were slacking for the past couple of months, so I was planning on removing the widget from the site at the beginning of the month. A few hours before I was planning to remove it, another ad buy came in, so I had to leave it running for a full week. The widget has not been removed from the blog and had earned over $1,000 in additional revenue since it’s inclusion on the blog since December. Advertising costs for the month were from testing traffic quality from Miva Searc and a few ad banners placements on other related blogs.

Another interesting point for the month of May, is that ShoeMoney and John Chow also both posted new record highs in blog earnings. ShoeMoney’s blog is nearly earning $40,000 a month in revenue, while JohnChow isn’t far behind with his latest $32,529.40 report for May.

This month I’d like to start writing a few posts on questions or processes people have for making money or how to implement ideas they might have. If you haven’t already, follow me on Twitter and be sure to submit your questions and requests for future posts. This week the blog should also pass 3,000+ rss subscribers. Thanks for being a reader!

    Zac,

    This is awesome news!

Is there any chance that you could write a series about how you produce that income with this blog? I have a blog as well, and don’t post to it hardly at all, but I want to get it up and running and have it at least make enough to support my #1 addiction - COMICS!

Anyway, I would love to hear your ideas!

    Thanks!

Just minutes before i read about a blog that has the same PageRank (5) but earns about 400 in one month.
Big difference for patiently building up regular readers!

Nice job! I don’t really calculate my blog earnings on an individual basis (more of a entire earnings thing) but the blog income I had was way up as well for May. :)

Congrats on breaking the 5k mark. Certainly nice to make more than most people make working a day job from blogging! Hehehe.

Amazing income report, a $2000 dollar increase in a month is truly substantial, not too long before you’re competiting with John Chow :P

Hey man, if I were you I’d switch up the layout so it’s neater and looks more professional. Right now it’s kind of jumbled up and messy, which will turn people away. You have a great niche topic so you should have a decent ad CTR as well as lots of businesses to approach about private ad sales. Aside from that, you just need more traffic because you can’t make money with no traffic.
